Gemma Gylling

No one captures dogs in colored pencil like Gemma, so we are very pleased to have Gemma teach with us on this cruise!  Gemma will share with us her techniques for creating beautifully expressive canine eyes and also teach you how to create believable, touch-able fur. How lucky are we that she's willing to teach us her secrets!

Gemma Gylling is a California native who grew up on a small ranch in Southern California and currently resides in Discovery Bay , California with her family and two dogs. She developed her colored pencil technique to a photo-realism quality. Her method is applying several layers of color using the colored pencil. The result simulates the look of an oil or acrylic painting.

Gemma was recently accepted into the Society of Animal Artists, the International Guild of Realism, the Canine Art Guild, is a board member of the National Board of CPSA, owner of Scribble and Scribble Talk. Her colored pencil paintings have been accepted in CPSA exhibitions along with many other nationally acclaimed art shows.

Rhonda Bartoe Tucker

Rhonda will be teaching you her absolutely amazing technique for creating paintings with great depth, using multiple sheets of mylar film!  This is a fantastic approach to colored pencil, and one that leaves you with rich, vibrant hues and beautifully crisp edges.  What a treat is in store for you with this workshop!

In 2003, Rhonda Bartoe Tucker made a career changing decision to become a working artist. Since then, she hasn't looked back and is enjoying considerable recognition for her colored pencil drawings. Last year her work was selected for Explore This ! 4 , a CPSA Exhibition in Brea, California; The Franklin Square Gallery National Exhibition in North Carolina, where she won first place in the two-dimensional category for "Early Autumn Mediation"; The Ohio State Fair's Fine Arts Exhibition (Professional Division) in Columbus, Ohio; and the International CPSA Exhibition in Bethesda, Maryland, where she won the Fantasia Colored Pencil Award for Excellence for "The Aviators".

Rhonda has embraced colored pencil as her medium of choice. Rhonda's work is highly representational and she has developed her colored pencil drawings with a painter's style, capturing light and atmosphere to enhance her subject matter.
