Red Onions and PotCreating Drama in Your (Still) Life

Learn the chiaroscuro (light and shadow) approach to colored pencil that will have people saying “that looks like an old master”!

The concepts of light and shadow can be applied to any fine art medium and starts at the very beginning with setup and lighting.  Cindy will demonstrate how to do set-up, lighting, build a value structure with water soluble colored pencil, create atmosphere and layer rich color. She will also show you how to create magic with hard and soft edges.  You'll work on Ampersand Pastlebord - a surface well suited to Cindy's magical style.

Vintage TeapotCindy currently volunteers her time as the national President of the Colored Pencil Society of America, and is finishing up a three year term as President of Lakewood Arts Council in Lakewood, Colorado.  She is a member of the Colorado Pastel Society, Daily Paintworks, Daily Painter Originals and Fresh Paint Daily Painters.  She most recently was selected to exhibit in the Randy Higbee 6 inch Squared Winter Exhibition.

Sheila Theodoratos

Express Yourself!  Put the "I" in Imagination!

The MOST important source of inspiration for painting ideas is our own lives...
and what we like most.”
-Jack Dickerson

Discover the 4 aspects of creative thinking and build on your personal strengths!  We’ll focus on strategies to generate, capture and expand your art ideas, as well as playing (and the  operative word is PLAYING) with compositional development,  backgrounds, negative space, and titles. Learn to jumpstart your ideas – great for those times when pushing a creativity button would be a help to your art and enthusiasm.

Sheila shares her processes and will present hands-on exercises and an abundant array of handouts helpful for novice to professional. This workshop also provides a forum wall welcoming any ideas, favorite quotes, sources of inspiration and book recommendations YOU’D like to share with other artists.

Sheila holds a B.A. in Art Education from Fairhaven College, Bellingham, WA, and “Integrating the Arts” M.A  from LesleyCollege, Cambridge, MA. She has been teaching art for over 38 years. Her own artwork is a balance of the dramatic and comedic - often infused with symbolism and storytelling.

She is a CPSA Signature member, 5 year merit award recipient, and Past President of Seattle DC207. Her art has received awards in local, state, regional and in both the CPSA International and “Explore This!” shows, and has been published in American Artist and International Artist Magazines, and in Northlight’s books: Strokes of Genius 1 & 2.
