| where can I get them online? |
|
| do you ever use verithins? |
no - they're just a little too hard for me. I prefer the soft, waxy quality of the prismacolors to the hardness of verithins. |
| do you ever use other brands of colored pencil? |
I find I can pretty much do what I want with prismacolors, but I sure wouldn't discourage you from trying other brands. |

what kind of pencil sharpener do you use?
|
Panasonic Electric Pencil Sharpener
(i used to use Boston's sharpeners, but they were bought out by Exacto, and I really don't like their new sharpeners at atll.) I don't like battery or hand-held sharpeners - almost all of them chew up the pencil, and they're too slow. |
| where can I find mylar? |
I use
Dura-Lar MATTE which can be purchased at dickblick. I use it in many of the lessons offered in From My Perspective, as well as our Stones and Shadows kit. It is archival quality, resists discoloring, and is relatively inexpensive. Be sure to get the MATTE version of this acetate, or your pencils won't stick to the surface at all! |
| why do my prismacolors break so often? |
if you find your prismacolors are breaking while sharpening, it's your sharpener's fault, not the pencil's fault! go electric...and the problem disappears! |
| what is "sticky stuff"? |
reusable adhesive. there are nearly a dozen brands. you find them in a hanging bubble pack, in the adhesive or school supply section of stores like OfficeMax. It's blue, yellow or white. mounting putty will work too. |
| what is a "value viewer"? |
a simple but invaluable tool. punch a hole in a small white piece of paper, (a business card works perfectly) place it over your photo reference, then over your drawing to compare values & isolate colors. I love my value viewer. it's how I determine color and value & I use mine constantly! |
